About me

Hi, I am Mathew Fitzgerald (that's right, Mathew with one 't').

Born in West Yorkshire, and now live in Stockport, Manchester.

My journey into magic started completely by accident in my twenties, during a university trip to Switzerland. Two students on the course performed a trick that absolutely blew my mind. I had no idea how they pulled it off, and I couldn't stop thinking about it.

Back then, I travelled by train to Preston three times a week. The morning after seeing that magic trick I remembered deciding ''right… this is what I’m going to do on those journeys. I’m going to learn magic.” The moment I got home, I bought a deck of cards and a magic book… and I’ve never looked back.

Back then, magic was just a hobby. I’d take the odd gig here and there, but everything changed in 2021 when my son was born.

One day I found myself wondering what I’d say if he ever asked, “Dad, what can I be when I grow up?” It hit me that I couldn’t tell him, “You can be whatever you want, as long as you give it your all,” because I hadn’t done the same with magic.

So I changed that. I practised more, worked harder, and before long those small gigs turned into regular bookings, weddings, repeat clients, and even a resident magician spot at a restaurant. And that journey has brought me right here, writing this bio as I prepare to take on the world by making people laugh and blowing their minds!

Aside from magic, my hobbies include tidying up after my wife and son and putting the bins out Thursday night! When I am not doing that, I help run a local magic club, the Manchester Circle of Magicians, that I joined in 2024. This year I was honoured to receive an award for outstanding service and commitment to the club.
